Nothing will destroy your peace of mind faster than comparing. It shows a lack of understanding and makes you ‘behave unwisely’ (2 Corinthians 10:12).
Cain measured himself against his brother Abel, and it ended in murder. When the disciples compared notes to see who among them would suffer and who would be spared, Jesus told them, ‘That is not your business’ (John 21:23).
(i) Comparisons can make you feel superior, which leads to pride. Remember the Pharisee who made a great show of thanking God because he was better than everybody else? (Luke 18:11).
Pride was Satan’s downfall; that’s…
The sluggard never does today what he can put off until tomorrow, and he never does tomorrow what he can put off forever.
His favorite workday is tomorrow. That’s why God asks, ‘How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?’ (Proverbs 6:9).
When someone is capable of working and jobs are available, you may be talking to a sluggard if you are continually asking, ‘How long are you going to take off between jobs?’ Or, ‘When are you going to look for another job?’
The story’s told of a college student who was…
The word vocation comes from the Latin word vocare, which means ‘spiritual calling.’
Every vocation, regardless of what it is, is a calling from God.
And once you start to see your job in that light, you will find it easier to believe God wants to bless you on the job.
So with that in mind, you need to:
(i) Pursue work compatible with your gifts. ‘if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ (1 Peter 4:11).
(ii) Learn everything possible about…
In the book of First Chronicles, the Bible tells us about a man named Jabez. The first nine chapters consist of genealogies, listing more than six hundred names.
And right there in the middle of all those names, God singles out one man for special recognition, and his name is Jabez.
There are only two verses in the entire Bible about this man, yet he’s given honorable mention above the six hundred other people mentioned in the chapter.
Why did God single him out? What did Jabez do that caused his name to be preserved for over four thousand years…
Every day you live you will be presented with opportunities to grow in grace (2 Peter 3:18), And you must always be open and receptive to them.
A grandmother celebrating her fiftieth wedding anniversary shared the secret of her long and happy relationship:
On my wedding day, I decided to make a list of ten of my husband’s faults, which for the sake of our marriage I would overlook. I never did get around to listing any.
Each time he did something I didn’t like, I would say to myself, “Lucky for him that’s one of the ten!
Each day we’ll face the temptation to do things that aren’t God’s best for us. This temptation can come from our own desires, peer pressure, or the expectations of society.
But God is right there to help. The Bible tells us that ‘no temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind.
And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.
But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it (1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV).
Sometimes, choosing to do the right thing can make…
In the last half-century, doctors have come to understand and emphasize the correlation between mental and physical health.
Yet the Bible talked about it over three thousand years ago when King Solomon gave us these four proverbs:
“A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like a cancer in the bones.” (Proverbs 14:30 NLT);
Can’t remember clearly how I met you!
But we became very close back then in school,
We studied very hard so that life will not be in vain,
This we did under the sun and the rain,
I know it is appointed unto men once to die,
But I can’t just hold back the tears in my eyes.
There are many whys but I can not ask,
If I tried to ask I may put my heart to the task,
I still do not know why your life was so short,
But the one’s you left behind may the Lord…
Lying in a self-pooled blood
Yet in the heavy flood
Thunders looking with
Murderous eyes-fire lit
Gasping for breath
Contending with death
Asking for the hands of hope
Yet hope said nope
Having the throat badly strangled
And the body badly handled
Confusion heard the cry
Yet hope was leaving him to die
Hope, he believed wasn’t fair
For pretending not to hear
The face was getting pale
He glanced at hope in pain
Then tried stretching his hands
But hope was leaving the land
It was the tur of death
Who readily pounced on its target
And while his spirit…
